History of the Cadillac brand

The Cadillac Motor Car Company was founded by engineer Heinrich Leland and businessman William Murphy. The name of the company was in honor of the founder of Detroit Frenchman Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac. The first model “A” Cadillac was shown in New York in 1903. In 1905, the “D” model appears, which brought fame to the company. It was a 5-seater car with a 4-cylinder engine and a wooden body.

The V8 model is produced by the company in 1915 and is equipped with an 8-cylinder V-engine. The company begins to specialize in the production of expensive luxury cars. In 1924, Cadillac installed brakes on all four wheels, dynamic crankshaft balancing began to be used. In 1930, Cadillac masters the production of cars “V16”, which are equipped with 16-cylinder engines with an overhead valve mechanism. In 1948, Cadillac designer Harley Earl decorates cars with long keels and chrome details. The front-wheel drive Eldorado was introduced in 1967.

In 1970, the company develops the Cadillac V8 engine, whose displacement of 8.2 liters took first place among serial passenger car engines.

The new Cadillac Seville, which appeared in 1975, sets its fashion trends for the automotive style of the time. Thanks to the “faceted” body shapes, this sedan was strikingly different from other cars of its class. Released in 1987, the Cadillac Allante cabriolet, which is the fruit of the Pininfarina design studio, brought together the latest developments of the company’s engineers.

This model was equipped as standard with the new Northstar engine and a traction control system that prevents wheel spin for better traction. Toward the end of the 1980s, the American company released updated De Ville and Fleetwood models.

In 1992, the modernized Eldorado coupe and Seville sedan were released, which underwent significant technical and stylistic changes. Since 1996, the power of the Northstar engine has been increased to 300 horsepower, which has allowed Cadillac cars to provide outstanding speed performance.

The classic STS sedan starts in 2005. The firm markets its Cadillacs in North America, primarily in the United States. In 2008, the company launches the second generation of the CTS. The new generation Cadillac Escalade will be released in 2014.
