History of the Honda brand

A bright engineer and original organizer Soichiro Honda, (Soichiro Honda, 1906-1991) created his company Honda Motor Company in 1948 for the production of mopeds. The company was located in Hamamatsu, Japan. The first moped had a “D” motor, in 1951 the “E” moped of the “Dream” type (“dream”) rolled off the assembly line. In 1958, the Super Club was delivered to the United States, and since that time, Honda has become the largest manufacturer of mopeds and motorcycles.

The motorcycle in the spirit of “Unisen”, with a low price, excellent quality and bright appearance, has become very popular. In 1961, Honda produced 100,000 motorcycles a month. In 1968, the millionth bike rolled off the assembly line.

The Japanese company released its first cars in 1963 – it was a small pickup truck model T360 and a sports roadster S500. The company began its expansion into the global automotive market with the Civic model in 1972, and since that time, Honda has specialized in the production of small cars of good quality and low price. The new Accord model appears in 1976, in the same year more than a million Honda Civic cars were produced. In 1980, Honda entered the top three automakers in Japan.

In the same year, the Ballade model is produced, the next – the Vigor and City models. In 1983, the Ballade Sports CRX rolled off the assembly line. In 1985, Honda Motor Company develops the Legend, Life and Integra models. A year later, the Japanese company introduced its sub-brand of premium cars Acura – this allowed to increase the level of sales and gain a foothold in the luxury segment.

In the 90s, the Japanese company expanded the geography of sales of its cars. In 1997, Honda opens factories in India, Indonesia, Vietnam, Brazil, and Turkey. Since 1998, the demand for Honda cars has been growing, and the company is increasing production. Honda is constantly introducing new technologies and developing its lineup. In North America, Honda sells twice as many cars as it does in Japan.

In the first half of 2007, slightly less than 770,000 Honda vehicles were sold in North America. In the same year, the popular third-generation CR-V crossover was delivered to the European market. The following year, the company introduced its new Honda Accord sedan for sale in Europe. Honda Motor Company is currently the second largest car manufacturer in Japan after Toyota.
