History of the Jaguar brand

Jaguar’s history dates back to 1922, when William Lyons and William Walmsley founded the Swallow Sidecar (SS) company in Blackpool, which originally produced sidecars for motorcycles. Success for SS comes in 1931 with the creation of the SS I with sporty features. The SS I car had two modifications – 16HP and 20HP, which developed 46 and 58 hp, respectively. In 1932, the SS II car was developed, which had a power of 37 hp. and a lower price than the SS I model. In 1936, the SS 11/2-Litre car appears, then the SS 21/2-Litre model, which received the name Jaguar.

After the Second World War, the brand finally received the name Jaguar. Sports model XK120 after the success at the auto show in 1948 in London went into series production. Model Mk V rolls off the assembly line of the company in 1949. In 1950, the wooden frame was replaced with a steel frame on the XK120 car, and, reaching speeds of up to 193 km / h, the model was recognized as the fastest mass-produced car. Developed in 1954, the XK140 reached a speed of 225 km/h.

In 1957, the Jaguar XK150 appeared, the engine of which had a power of 253 hp. and a volume of 3.5 liters. With just 88 built, the Jaguar D-Type is now a collector’s item. In 1961, the legendary E-type appeared – a roadster with an aerodynamic body that reached speeds of up to 241 km / h. Since 1971, Jaguar has been installing a new 272 hp V12 engine in its cars – the first model with such an engine was the Jaguar XJ luxury sedan.

In 1988, the company introduced a concept version of its fastest car, the XJ220, with a 500-horsepower engine; the model went into production in 1991. A year later, the XJ220C racing variant won a landmark victory at the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans. In 1989, Ford became the owner of Jaguar.

In 2000, the company presents the S-Type car, whose engines had a power of 238 hp. or 276 hp A year later, the premium X-Type sedan appears, using the Ford Mondeo platform. In 2003, the S-Type R model appears, which has a turbocharged engine, the power of this power plant was 390 hp.
