History of the Lamborghini brand

Lamborghini is an Italian luxury sports car manufacturer founded in 1963. A talented engineer, successful businessman and simple car enthusiast Ferruccio Lamborghini (1916-1993) presented his first prototype of a sports car to the public in 1963 at the Turin auto show. Prior to that, the Lamborghini company he headed was engaged in the production of tractors and components for them.

A year later, the company began mass production of the 2-seater Lamborghini 350 GT coupe, which reached speeds of up to 280 km/h. This allowed the head of Ferruccio Lamborghini to prove to the whole world that he can create cars that are not inferior in performance to Ferrari. In 1965, the Lamborghini Miura model was released, which surpassed Ferrari cars in popularity. Miura had an original engine layout and a great sporty design with aerodynamic shapes.

In 1970, Lamborghini shows the Urraco P250 model, equipped with an 8-cylinder engine with a volume of 2.5 liters. In 1974, the Lamborgini Countach car appears, the successor to the Miura model, which has a powerful 12-cylinder engine – this allowed it to accelerate to an incredible 300 km / h. The Lamborghini Espada, belonging to the Grand Touring class, became the most popular car of the brand in its time.

The name of the model is translated as “blade of the matador”. The Silhouette, designed by Bertone, was released in March 1976. With a three-liter 8-cylinder V-engine, Silhouette reached a speed of 260 km / h and accelerated to 100 km / h in 7 seconds. As a result of the oil crisis in the 70s, sales of Lamborghini cars plummeted. In 1978, the company was forced to declare itself bankrupt. The Chrysler concern, which is acquiring an Italian company, undertook to correct the situation.

Under the wing of Chrysler, Lamborghini developed the legendary Diablo sports car in 1989, which revived interest in the brand and increased sales. In the same year, the 25th Anniversary Countach was born, the body parts of which were modernized by the designers of the Lamborghini company itself. In 1994, Chrysler Corporation is experiencing financial difficulties. Lamborghini passes into new hands – this time the owner of the enterprise was an investment group from Indonesia, which did not manage to achieve progressive success in development.

In 1998, the Italian company becomes the property of Audi AG. From this time begins a modern milestone in the history of Lamborghini. In 2001, the Lamborghini Murcielago model was produced, the external aerodynamic appearance of which was developed by the Belgian Luca Donkervolk. Since 2003, assembly of the Gallardo supercar, the most mass-produced model of Lamborghini, has begun on the assembly line of the enterprise. In 2011, the Murcielago is replaced by a new Aventador model with a 6.5-liter 12-cylinder engine that can reach up to 350 km/h.
