History of the Alfa Romeo brand

The Italian company Alfa Romeo Automobiles S.p.A., which produces high-class sports cars, began in 1906. This year, near Milan, for the production of French Darracq cars, Hugo Stella created the Societa Italiana Automobili Darracq society. In the future, Ugo Stella decided to produce his Italian cars and in 1910 created the company “Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica di Automobili” (A.L.F.A.). In 1910, a 5-seater 24CV open-top car appears. A less powerful 12CV model was also developed. A racing sports car based on 12CV successfully performed at the competitions in the city of Modena. In 1915, Nicola Romeo became the head, and the company received the euphonious name “Alfa Romeo”.

In 1925, the Alfa P2 takes first place in the 1st racing car championship, and Alfa Romeo becomes popular in the world. The Alfa Romeo 6C Golden Arrow enjoyed great success. In the 50s, models appeared that combined the advantages of family and racing cars – the Alfa Romeo Ti and its improved modifications, the Ti Sprint Super Sport and Ti Coupe Sprint. The Giulia Sprint GT cabriolet (Giulia) was assembled at the Arese factory. At factories near Naples in the 70s, a 5-door Alfasud hatchback appeared, which received front-wheel drive. In 1986, Alfa Romeo became part of the FIAT concern.

In 2005, the outdated 156th model is replaced by the Alfa Romeo 159 sedan. In the same year, the Brera model appears, which was very well received by the auto world. Brera receives the title of “Best Car” at the Geneva Show. In 2006, the company produces the Alfa Romeo Spider convertible. Supercar 8C Competizione with 450 hp released in only 500 copies. All cars were sold out before the model began to be assembled on the assembly line. In 2006, the firm decided to start selling its entire range of vehicles, including the Brera and Spider.

Despite the high cost, Alfa Romeo cars are in demand in the market, but they cannot compete with German premium brands.
