History of the Lincoln brand

Henry Leland formed the Lincoln Motor Company in 1917 to make aircraft engines. The company was named after the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln. After the First World War, the founder of the company planned to go into the production of luxury cars, but the difficulties that arose forced him to sell his company. In 1922, Lincoln Motor is bought by Henry Ford and Lincoln becomes a division of Ford.

The first-born of the company was the prestigious Lincoln L-series with a powerful V8 engine. Since 1923, Lincoln cars have been the official cars of the presidents of the United States. The first such car was the 1939 Lincoln V12 Convertible, designed for Franklin Roosevelt. In 1932, the Lincoln KB sedan was born with a 12-cylinder engine. The model had a silent course and was supplied with hydraulic brakes.

In 1935, the company released the Lincoln Zephyr V12, shortened to 5143 mm in length, which was a great success due to the external design developed by John Tyarda and a low price equal to 33% of the cost of the “big” Lincoln cars. 14,994 Lincoln Zephyr V12s were sold in 1936, and 29,997 the following year, an unprecedented result for the firm. In 1940, the Lincoln Continental saw the light of day – a four-seater coupe with two doors.

The body of the Lincoln Continental acquired the features of conservatism and sportiness. In 1942, the Continental was restyled, thanks to which the appearance of the car became more angular, and the radiator grill acquired additional chrome parts.

The world-famous Lincoln Town Car sedan was released in 1981. In 1984, the company launched the Lincoln Continental MK VII, a luxury coupe.

Thanks to good aerodynamics, electronically adjustable suspension and anti-lock braking system, this model has become a significant event in the automotive world. In January 1997, the Lincoln Navigator SUV appears, based on the Ford Expedition and which has become the most luxurious car of this class in the United States.

In 2005, the company launches the MKZ luxury sedan (originally Zephyr) with an all-wheel drive chassis. In 2009, the premium MKT crossover saw the light of day, occupying a position in the lineup below the Navigator SUV. Lincoln is currently the leading luxury car manufacturer in the United States. Brand Lincoln has become one of the most popular in the automotive world.
